1. The Bahamian Dollar is equivalent to the U.S. Dollar. Thus, U.S. dollars are accepted everywhere on the island. However, The Bahamian dollar is NOT accepted in the U.S.

2. Conch is the most popular seafood in the Caribbean. It’s a tropical marine shellfish. Locals like to use it in soups, salads and entrees.

3. Sunday is the quietest day of the week. You’re unlikely to see very many tourists or locals. 

4. Although Bahamians have a lot in common with Americans, the Bahamas used to be British territory. In fact, they still drive on the left side of the road just like Brits.

5. The Bahamas is home to the longest underwater cave system in the world. It is located at Lucayan National Park on Grand Bahama Island.

6. If you’re looking for a great tourist attraction, Mount Alvernia, on Cat Island is a great site to see. It is the highest peak in The Bahamas.

7. Be sure to stop at Pink Sands Beach, on Harbour Island. This magical oasis is full of bright pink and red shells, and unique marine animals.

8. The Bahamas are a tax-free zone. There is no income tax, capital gains tax, corporate tax or inheritance tax.

9. The largest wine cellar in the world belongs to the Graycliff Restaurant, a 5 star restaurant located in Nassau.

10. The name Bahamas is Spanish for Baja Mar, which means sea or shallow water.
